Why should I opt-in e-mail market in the first place?

When I sign up, how soon will I be able to use my account?
Right away. As soon as you enter the required information and submit the sign-up form, you are an EmailFactory account owner. Then you can use EmailFactory to create or upload lists, send campaigns, and run viral contests.

Note: Our list import feature is reviewed by an EmailFactory Account Representative to make sure all e-mails sent from our system are opt-in email--not spam. As a result, it will take up to 24 hours to review your imported list. Faster times are available if needed. Just contact your EmailFactory representative.

What does opt-in mean?
Opt-in means that the people to whom you send your message have chosen to receive it. Spam, which is the opposite of an opt-in message, is bad. Never spam. Spamming means sending someone an e-mail message they didn't ask for. Think of spam as those "get-rich-quick" offers you get in your mailbox, or the telemarketer who calls you when you're sitting down to dinner. Most of us throw junk mail away without opening it, and we hang up (at some point) on telemarketers.

On the other hand, receiving an opt-in e-mail message is like a subscription to your favorite magazine--you look forward to receiving it, and you'll definitely open it. That's why opt-in e-mail messages are so effective. It's welcome.

I don't have an opt-in e-mail address list to mail to. Can I buy one from you?
The easiest way to obtain opt-in e-mail addresses is to put an EmailFactory generated signup form on your website, to allow people to directly sign up for your mailings. EmailFactory does not sell lists (nor are we a list broker), but we can help you find and rent a double (confirmed) opt-in list through one of our trusted 3rd party opt-in e-mail list partners.

What does "viral" mean?
In marketing, "viral" means your e-mail message contains an element which makes your recipients want to forward it to other people. Contests, polls, and games--even jokes--are all forms of viral marketing. What makes viral marketing so powerful is that your e-mail gets an implied endorsement from one friend to another.

Here's a simplified example. Let's say you're promoting a contest. You send your e-mail message to 100 people, who have opted in--or chosen--to receive it. And let's say one of those 100 people has five friends who would like to enter your contest. In this case, that one recipient forwards your e-mail to five of their friends, who enter.

Magnified, viral marketing can be even more powerful. For example, if your opt-in list has 100 people on it, and 25% of those people forward your e-mail to at least one friend, you'd have an extra 25 people who otherwise would have never seen your offer. What web browsers are compatible with EmailFactory?
If you own a PC, use Internet Explorer (IE) 4.0 or greater or Netscape 4.0 or greater. Note that EmailFactory software is optimized for use with IE 5.0 or higher. Although we have a 95% success rate running EmailFactory on the Mac platform, there are Mac-based bugs that we cannot take responsibility for.
